Preparation
When you contact our office, our team will learn about your concerns and begin preparing for your teen’s evaluation. We’ll request any current records from your dentist and verify your insurance coverage whenever possible.
Evaluation
At the initial visit, we take photos and a digital scan of your teen’s teeth using our iTero scanner, so there are no messy impressions. We review the images together on the monitor to discuss bite and alignment concerns. In most cases, we can submit the scan to Invisalign and show you a video of how your teen’s teeth will move, often within about 15 minutes. If you’re ready to move forward, we’ll take any necessary x-rays and schedule the next step.
Treatment Planning Consultation
Dr. Schur refines your teen’s treatment plan and communicates with any other dental professionals involved in their care. During the consultation, you’ll review the video of your teen’s actual tooth movement plan, and we can make real-time changes to the virtual treatment. This meeting is usually held in our office, but we also offer remote consultations by phone or computer.
Starting Treatment
Once you approve the plan, we’ll order the aligners and schedule your teen’s start appointment, which can be as soon as two weeks after the initial visit. Follow-up visits are typically every 8 to 12 weeks. At the end of treatment, your teen will receive custom retainers, and visits become far less frequent.

Have Questions About Invisalign® Teen?
Can my teen eat or drink with the aligners in?
We recommend drinking only water while wearing the aligners. Food and other drinks can pool inside the aligners, causing staining and potential damage to the teeth, so aligners should be removed for meals and snacks.
What if my teen loses their aligners?
Have your teen move directly to the next pair of aligners in the series, then call us as soon as possible at (425) 747-4477 so we can discuss the plan from there.
How long should my teen wear the aligners each day?
For optimal results, aligners should be worn about 22 hours per day. Invisalign® is an advanced instrument, but great results depend on choosing the right instrument, designing treatment properly, and your teen’s commitment to wearing the aligners as directed.
Will my teen need to wear a retainer after treatment?
Yes. The key to maintaining a great orthodontic result is a properly designed retainer and retention plan, which Dr. Schur creates for each patient at Schur Orthodontics.
What smile issues can Invisalign Teen correct?
Invisalign® Teen can treat misaligned and crowded teeth, gaps, improper bites such as overbites and underbites, and bite problems that cause wearing or breaking of the teeth. Dr. Schur will determine during a consultation whether it is an appropriate option for your teen.
How much does Invisalign Teen cost?
Invisalign® Teen costs about the same as traditional braces, depending on the complexity of your teen’s case. We offer convenient payment plans, accept most insurance, and can help you optimize your FSA or HSA. If cost is a concern, talk with us and we’ll work with you.
My teen was told they aren’t a candidate for Invisalign. Is that final?
Not necessarily. Invisalign technology and capabilities are constantly improving, and Dr. Schur stays current on what is possible. In some cases, we can start with braces and convert to Invisalign® later.
